The Continental Leadership Research Institute (CLRI) has called on Government to ensure an adequate system that addresses incidences of fuel shortages in the country.
Reacting on the shortage of fuel which has hit some parts of the country due to the protest by tanker drivers, CLRI Executive Director Paul Hakoola said fuel is one of the key drivers of the economy hence the need to ensure there are no disruptions in the supply chain of the commodity in the country.
Mr Hakoola said government should create a system that will be always ready for incidences that might affect the distribution systems of petroleum products.
He said the system should have adequate back up to ensure that the end users of petroleum products are not affected instantly by the disruption in the distribution channels.
“The Institute recognises that petroleum is a fundamental pillar that drives the economy and there has to be a proper back up support systems that can ensure that economy and end users are protected from sudden disruption in the distribution chain of petroleum products,” he said.
He has also called on Government to create an environment that enables local entrepreneurship in the petroleum sector something he said would help reduce high unemployment levels among the youths.
