The Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) has welcomed the move by Government of commissioning Munali Flyover Bridge by President Edgar Lungu.
ZRST Chairperson Daniel Mwamba said that such an infrastructure development programme is key to improving road safety in the country.
Mr Mwamba said that the re-designing of the major road network infrastructure like the Munali Flyover Bridge and the other ones recently launched, will not only reduce traffic congestions but also promote safe mobility for motorists.
“We want to commend President Edgar Lungu and his Government for the job well-done, which will result in an enhanced standard of living for all the citizens without leaving anyone behind,” he said.
He said the government has made an effort to transform and change the face of the country through urban revitalization.
Mr Mwamba said that it will go a long way in reducing unnecessary accidents in the country.
He said a safe road infrastructure development will improve accessibility and reduce transportation costs also allowing citizens improve access to services.
Mr Mwamba said ZRST is an organization that advances the interests of all road users to ensure transport systems are safe and sustainable.
He said he attaches such developments to great achievement especially where human lives are concerned.
“Our appeal to the government is to extend this gesture to also vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, disabled people and even cyclists by improving the sidewalks to make our country walkable, given that lots of our people do a lot of walking compared to motorists,” he said.
Mr Mwamba said that It is against this background that they have vigorously embarked on various road safety projects that aimed at reducing road crashes.
He said that is a mean to supplement government efforts to reduce the number of fatalities in the Country.
