Why G12 clause when a voter is illiterate-Akafumba

By IREEN MULENGA
National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) interim President Joseph Akafumba has blamed the Electoral Commission of Zambia for introducing Grade 12 certificate clause.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Akafumba said the voter has no qualification and insisting on Grade 12 certificate for candidate is illogic.

He said given the chance, he can remove Grade12 clause because the voter has no qualifications.

Mr Akafumba said the problem is that most voters are bought by a pack of opaque beer and go to vote in drunken state.

“The problem with ECZ is that they are imposing everything on the people. Their fees are too high. ECZ should at all cost try to lower the fees so that it is manageable by everyone.

“It is not right for the ECZ to introduce the Grade 12 clause now when people have wasted their time in pre-elections campaigns. People should be given chance to contest the elections because they are being elected by the people. So, if the people themselves elect a Grade 7 is ok as long as that person understands issues.
