Former Livingstone Mayor, TC, sentenced to 18 months imprisonment

The Livingstone Magistrates Court has convicted former Livingstone Mayor, Town Clerk and a Councillor to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices.

Milford Maambo, former Mayor of Livingstone City, Ziwa Malila Ziwa, former Councillor and Chabala Chanda, former Livingstone Acting Town Clerk, were arrested in 2018 by the Anti-Corruption Commission and charged with 26 counts of corrupt practices.

The offences include corrupt offering of plots to land surveyors as inducement for demarcating land, corrupt acquisition of Public Property which they later sold, abuse of authority of office in the manner offer letters for illegally obtained land were issued without following laid down procedures.

The offences were committed in 2014 when the trio were in office.

Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo convicted the trio and sentenced them to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from 16th March 2021.

The sentences in all counts will run concurrently
