Dear Editor
I write to commend Amos Malupenga the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services for again showing his gallant stance on press freedom and media space.

The petition though late is welcome and relevant authorities should take this petition with the quickest pace it deserves to make sure media houses and their personnel are protected from the thuggery inclined cadres and petty politicians.
It is a known fact that the attackers of media houses are many times known without even a stressful and costly investigation needed but would always calm to the tune of “let us wait for police are investigating”. Why investigate for instance a District Commissioner who was actually seen on the scene ordering the thuggery or even threatening the guests and media personnel! It doesn’t make sense to me.
Media houses will seriously need protection from police as we heard towards the 12 August general elections because a lot of divergent views and opinions will come into play as candidates and their supporters outsmart each other.
Amos being the controlling officer in the ministry should not end up at that petition but also go further to question why known media attackers have been let on the loose this long denting the image of the government, and then tell the nation.
He should also labor to lobby for compensation for those media houses whose equipment got damaged or stolen in the process of most of these attacks if his petition is well intended.
Otherwise, I sincerely applaud his first step.
