Catholic Diocese of Ndola Bishop Benjamin Phiri has called on Christians to work on the matters that bring dis-unity as they undergo the intense period of Repentance, Conversion and Reconciliation.
Bishop Phiri said the victory of the Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate goal of belief which must work to reconcile and unite everybody.
This is contained in a letter read on his behalf by Fr Martin Bwalya.
He said it is right and fitting that the Diocese is celebrating the year of Unity, to be one through the cross.
Bishop Phiri said the holy and spiritual discipline that accompanies Lent, is fasting, almsgiving and prayer to attract God’s attention and spiritual mileage.
He said the three must develop a genuine and deeper relationship with God and with one another based on pure love for unity.
Bishop Phiri said as the country heads to the polls, the aspect of facing temptation will be high as political figures would wish to be elected to various offices.
“The offer of luxury pleasure, food, drinks, money aims at distracting the focal point of Christians values and God. Therefore I urge you to imitate Jesus Christ when the time comes,” he said.
He said the church is not a political ground, therefore harbor thoughts of love and unity despite the political diversity.
