Patriotic Front Copperbelt Province Chairman Nathan Chanda has announced his desire to contest the Roan Constituency Parliamentary seat.
Mr Chanda who is the Mayor of Luanshya District made the announcement at Mpatamato Secondary School where hundreds of Roan and Mpatamato residents endorsed him.
Mr Chanda emphasised the need for unit, loyalty and love for the party PF
H said that he will support any candidate that will be adopted to contest on the PF ticket in case he is not adopted.
“In an event that I’m not picked, this will not be the first time. I have never given up in my political career; in 2011 I was adopted and then elected as Mayor for Luanshya. Because I have a vision and dream to aspire to work for the people of Roan, in 2016, I aspired, but I was not adopted and I was told to give time to my elder brother. My loyalty is to the party as patience pays,” he said
Mr Chanda also had a message to all party aspiring candidates that may not be adopted.
“As Provincial Chairman, let encourage those that will not be adopted at any level to continue working for the party. PF believes in democracy, anyone who wants to aspire should be accommodated.
“I am here to offer my service to the people of Roan as a servant to bring the instructions of what you want here in Roan. The people of Luanshya have cried for many things, including the roads. But through efforts I can confirm that 15 kilometers have been given to AVIC and they will be on site to do some selected critical roads,” said Mr Chanda.
Mr Chanda siad his desire to stand as MP followed wide consultation from stakeholders, friends and family.
“I want to declare my intentions to stand as MP for Roan on the PF ticket under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu who fully believes in youth leadership. This decision has come as people who have continued to encourage me from back two years ago. As a result of this consultation, it is today that I declare to stand. All I am asking from you are prayers, support so that I can have the wisdom from God to govern the people. Leadership comes from God and in this journey, where I want everyone to walk with me will only be possible with the hand of God. We need to create an enabling environment and leave Roan like never before we found it. Provide opportunities for all, the Church, widows, orphans and everyone in Luanshya.
“This journey will start if we all take part especially the youths, women. The PF has opened doors and no one should be intimidated. Because of the love you people have for me, I was expecting a few people to come, but the love I have found here is so amazing, huge numbers of people. I am humbled,” said Chanda.
Mr Chanda who has served as Mayor for Luanshya for 7 years has announced to hang his boots and will not be contesting the seat again but will instead aspire to stand as Member of Parliament for Roan Constituency in Luanshya District.
