Monze Town Council has commenced the rehabilitation of non-functional boreholes in Monze Central and Moomba constituencies using the 2020 Constituency Development Funds.
Monze Town Council has commenced the rehabilitation of non-functional boreholes in Monze Central and Moomba constituencies using the 2020 Constituency Development Funds.
Monze Town Council Spokesperson Kanchele Kanchele said the Local Authority procured the materials to be used in the repair of the boreholes last month and that the materials have been delivered to 12 wards out of the 15 wards.
Mr Kanchele explained that in Moomba Constituency the Local Authority intends to rehabilitate at least 20-25 boreholes in four wards.
“Works have already started in three wards out of the four wards in Moomba. We can confirm that area pump minders are working on the Boreholes in Mwanza East and West wards. In Mwanza East we have so far done at least three boreholes out of the five in total. In Mwanza West work has started, in Choona material was delivered and work will start soon.
“In Monze Central Constituency materials have been delivered to eight wards and we are yet to deliver in three wards. The wards awaiting delivery of materials are Katimba, Bbombo and Hantotola which will be delivering within the course of the week. Works have already started in the other six wards where we have delivered the materials. We have earmarked a total of 44 Boreholes in all the 11 wards of Monze Central Constituency” he said.
He also said that the total cost of rehabilitation is at K150,000 and this money is coming from the Constituency Development Funds.
And Mr Kanchele has called on communities to guide the rehabilitated boreholes jealously and ensure that the equipment stands the test of time.
“We would like to appeal to users of these boreholes to ensure that they protect these water infrastructures once they are rehabilitated because we can only make progress if we do not continue to work on the same Infrastructure every time we receive CDF. We urge Ward Development Committees to ensure that they set up structures which will not only protect such infrastructure but also ensure that a system to ensure that they are repaired without waiting for allocations such as the CDF to have them repaired,” he said.
Over 15000 people who have been sharing water sources with animals will have access to clean water after the completion of the rehabilitations.
