The Economics Association of Zambia -EAZ- has called on government to probe the rising prices of cement in the country.
Association President Lubinda Habazoka said the continued upward adjustment in the price of cement is unjustified given the sustained stability in the exchange rate.
Dr Habazoka said the frequent re-pricing is not supported by any economic fundamentals on the local market.
He said that government should investigate the pricing irregularities to safeguard the interests of the consumers.
He said unjustified re-pricing has a negative impact on the economy.
The country has recently witnessed a repeated upward adjustment in the price of cement, a locally produced product.
