A-65-year-old man of Mafinga has committed suicide by hanging after suspecting his wife of having an extra marital affair with a man aged 24.
Isaac Mwandila was found by his sons hanging on a tree with a wire.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said Mr Mwandila went home in a drunken state and picked a quarrel with his 61-year-old wife.
“The incident happened on February 16 , 2021 around 21:00 hours at Simion Village, Chief Muyombe in which Lenard Mwandila, 31 of Simion Village reported that his father committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree using a wire, ” she said.
Ms Katongo said officers who visited the scene found the body of the victim hanging about 100 meters away from his home.
“It is alleged that around 15:00 hours, the victim went home in a drunken state and picked a quarrel his wife aged 61.
The situation is said to have been aggravated by a named 24 year old man who, in his drunken state, begun calling the wife of the now deceased and this made him to suspect his wife of having an extra marital affair,” she said.
She said at 21:00 hours, the deceased was spotted by one of his sons heading to a nearby bush and he alerted his elder brother.
“They trailed the victim and found his body hanging on a tree,” she said.
She said the body has been buried and police have opened an inquiry in the matter.
