Police in Chikankata have arrested a 26-year-old man of Chimuka Village for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said Jalivwa Mpongo dragged the victim to a nearby field after noticing that she was home alone and threatened kill if she shouts.
Ms Katongo said the girl who could not walk called for help and her grandmother rushed to the scene and reported to the village headman who organised youths to apprehend the suspect.
“It is alleged that the victim was left home alone by her grandmother who went to get a chicken from the neighbor when the suspect went home and asked the girl on the whereabouts of her grandmother.
“After noticing that the victim was alone, he dragged her to the nearby field and ordered her to be quiet or be killed. After the act he is reported to have run away,”she said.
She said the incident happened on February 8, 2021 and the girl who was initially admitted to Mazabuka Hospital but has been discharged.
