Honeybee license Revocation lawful-Pharmaceutical Society

The Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia -PSZ- has welcomed the revocation of the pharmaceutical license issued to Honeybee Pharmacy based on reasons that the firm contravened the terms and conditions of the license.

PSZ President, Kennedy Saini said in a statement that the revocation is in line with the law and that the action by the regulator will send a clear warning to the industry that wrongdoing will never be tolerated as it puts the health of the citizens at risk

Mr Saini has further called on ZAMRA to take a step further and prosecute the company in line with Section 59, subsection 1 to 3 of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act, of the Laws of Zambia.

He says the company seems to be unremorseful by dragging the regulator to court.

Mr Saini said the pharmacy business is professional and as such, his organisation has bemoaned the recent mushrooming of unethical pharmaceutical business entities in the country who may not understand that patient care come first than profits.

Yesterday, the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA)revoked Honeybee Pharmaceutical License.

ZAMRA  Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Iliamupu , said the license has been revoked because Honeybee contravened with the terms and conditions of the pharmaceutical license.

Ms Iliamupu stated that Honeybee Pharmacy failed to carry out remedial measures as outlined in the notice of intent to revoke the pharmaceutical license.

She indicated that the pharmacy in question also ceased to carry on business as Honeybee Pharmacy without giving notice to the ZAMRA.
