Kabungo Ward Councillor Richard Mutale says drainages in his ward have been cleared to allow smooth flow of water.
Speaking with The Independent Observer, Mr Mutale said exercise is aimed at promoting hygiene and deterring of breeding of misquotes.
He said blocked drainages become a breeding ground for misquotes which invade homes and silently send the residents to medical facilities.
Mr Mutale said clearing drainages helps in chasing misquotes thereby cutting down on malaria infection which in turn reduces medical bills.
He said youths and women were engaged in the unblocking of the drainages as a way of using localized labour.
“The youths, women and men who were working have been paid in full amounting to K6000. Our focus was mainly in Shibuchinga and Lupili areas,” he said.
He thanked Chingola Municipal Council for paying in a short time and the people from his ward for completing the exercise within two months.
Mr Mutale has urged the community not to throw garbage in the drainages.
