The United Party for National Development UPND has revealed that 30 percent of the candidates to be adopted for this year’s general elections will be women.
UPND Spokesperson Steven Katuka said that the party wants to empower women with decision making positions by ensuring that it adopts them for various electoral positions starting from parliamentary to ward level.
Mr Katuka said that for many years women have been undermined by not being put in electoral positions adding that the party will even empower more women with higher positions in deferent offices if voted into office.
He has called on the youths in the party to apply for various seats ahead of this year’s general election so that they can be considered for adoption.
Mr Katuka said that the party wants to see all groups of ages participate in general elections.
He siad that the party’s doors remained open to new ideas and youthful brains hence the need for the youths to also apply for adoptions in the forthcoming general elections.
