Civil Liberties ready to monitor UPND intra party elections

By CHINOYI CHIPULU
The Zambian Institute of Governance and Civil Liberties Advocacy Platform (ZIGCLAP) says it is ready to send monitors for the United Party National Development (UPND) intra party elections.

The UPND General Assembly will be held simultaneously in the 10 provinces of Zambia on February 14.

ZIGCLAP Chief Executive Officer Francis Chipili said party intra-elections are constitutional and demands real election conducted.

“ZIGCLAP stands to send its monitors to the 10 provinces to monitor the UPND intra party elections. The institution wants to monitor the UPND intra party pre elections, during elections and post elections democratic activities,” he said.

Mr Chipili said if the UPND can’t allow non-surrogate entities to monitor its intra-party elections, then it has no moral right to insist on flooding the country with foreign observers especially with the second wave of COVID 19.

He said Chipili urged the UPND party to open up to neutral civil societies to monitor it’s elections.
