Shoprite Chipata closed

Chipata City Council has closed Shoprite branch in Chipata due to illegal construction works at the premises.

Council Public Relations Manager Kameko Manda said the local authority closed down the chain store around 09:00 hours for conducting illegal construction works at the premises.

Ms Manda said the construction works are a health hazard not only for the customers, but the employees as well.

She said the Council decided to take action, following numerous complaints from members of the public, adding that management at the chain store did not even get permission from the council to conduct the works.

The Council spokesperson revealed that the named chainstore is being renovated, without halting operations at the facility.
And Shoprite Zambia General Manager Charles Bota has confirmed the closure to The Independent Observer in a telephone interview.

Mr Bota said the Chain store upgrading the outlet in Chipata to meet the growing demand for the now declared city.

He said upgrading departments are butchery, bakery, dairy and the general outlook of the outdoor.

“We have been told that we did not meet certain construction specifications to enhance safety. And we have gladly obliged.

“They are visiting us tomorrow and if they are happy with what were advise to comply with then they can either open the outlet or advise us further,” he said/ZANIS.
