Unruly youths clash in Lusaka

By CHINOYI CHIPULU
Unruly youths yesterday clashed in Lusaka’s George Compound causing havoc and damaged window panes to nearby houses within the compound.

Police have so far arrested five suspects aged between 21 and 25 years old.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in an interview that unruly youths have been charged with Malicious Damage to Property and are detained in police custody.

“Police received a report in which groups of unruly youths aged between 21 and 25 years are reported to have clashed in Lusaka’s George Compound on January 10, 2021 between 15:00 hours and 19:00 hours. In the process they damaged window panes to nearby houses belonging to some residents within George Compound,” she said.

Ms Katongo named the suspects as Kennedy Mbao, John Phiri and Cosmas Bwange.

Others are Joseph Phiri and Mwila Banda, all of George Compound.

She said the cause of the clash is yet to be established.

“Five male suspects have been arrested and charged with Malicious Damage to Property and are detained,” she said.

She said one of the accused persons was found with a sharp knife and it has been kept as an exhibit.

She said that police since embarked on an operation aimed at getting rid of such criminal elements from the community.

“Of late, there have been increased complaints from members of the public in the area concerning unruly youths terrorizing members of the public. Members of the public with information that could be helpful in this operation can report to police,” she said.
