President Lungu bails out Nkana again

By Mulenga Chapoloko
President Edgar Lungu has donated $100,000 to Nkana Football Club to facilitate the team’s trip to Angola for tomorrow’s crucial CAF Champions League match against Petro Atletico.

Nkana are reportedly struggling financially.

Club vice President Patrick Njovu, who confirmed receiving the money, said it would help Nkana to fulfill the CAF match in Luanda, Angola.

“It is even me who went to the State House to get the money. We were given $100,000 which is K2.1million,” Njovu told The Independent Observer Sport by phone.

“The money has really helped and we will manage to go to Angola,” he said.

This is not the first time President Lungu is coming to the aid of Nkana, a team based in his home town of Kitwe.

The President last August donated $32,000 to Nkana to enable the club pay striker Walter Bwalya outstanding dues as ordered by FIFA and FAZ.

Meanwhile, Nkana have flown out to Angola on chartered flight via Solwezi.

Wednesday’s return leg of the CAF Champions League first round encounter between Nkana and Petro will kick off at 18:00 hours.
