Zesco United have gone three points clear at the top of the FAZ Super Division following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over promoted Indeni on Saturday afternoon at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The win in this Ndola derby pushed Zesco to 18 points, three above second placed Zanaco, who drew goalless against Forest Rangers in Ndola.
Zesco benefited from Moses Soko’s own goal to overcome a determined Indeni side.
John Ching’andu put Zega in the driving seat after 45 minutes with Soko doubling the lead on 60 minutes via an own goal before Tranquiliin Mwepu reduced the deficit to 2-1.
Congolese striker Djunese Kanda equalised for Indeni to make it 2-2 in the 80th minute but Logic Ching’andu had the final say in the 90th minute when he struck the winner.
Indeni drops to seventh place and remains stuck on 12 points from nine matches played.
In Lusaka, former Chipolopolo striker Emmanuel Mayuka scored his debut league goal for Napsa Stars as they beat Green Buffaloes 1-0 in their Lusaka derby played at Woodlands Stadium.
This was Mayuka’s third goal for Napsa in all competition in two weeks.
The result saw Napsa leave the bottom of the table from 18th to 16th on 6 points from six games and four in hand.
Meanwhile, league action continues on Sunday when Nkana entertains ninth positioned Green Eagles in Kitwe on the same day Kitwe United are away to third place Buildcon in Ndola.
