By-elections dates for 4 Local Govt wards set

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set Monday, 4th January, 2021 as the date to hold four Local Government wards By-elections.

The elections are in Kamimba Ward of Lumezi District, Maramba Ward of Livingstone District, Luola Ward of Kalabo District and Kaimbwe Ward of Kasempa District.

Acting Public Relations Manager Sylvia Bwalya said the by-elections in the wards have arisen following resignations and death of a Councilor.

Ms Bwalya said the polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours and aspiring candidates in the by-elections should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers to the Returning Officer on 23rd December, 2020 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours.

She said In view of this, the Commission wishes to advise aspiring candidates who may wish to contest in these by-elections that failure to comply with these requirements shall render the nomination papers null and void.

Ms Bwalya said that the campaign period for these elections commences at 15:00 hours on Wednesday 23rd December 2020 and end at 18:00 hours on Sunday 3rd January, 2021.

She said that stakeholders and participating political parties are all required to observe the Ministry of Health Guidelines and on the prevention of COVID-19 at all times.
