Kafue Gorge Lower overflows

By JOHN SAKALA
The dam at Kafue Gorge Lower power station has started overflowing.

Zesco Spokesperson Henry Kapata in today’s November 26, 2020, update said following the overflow, the utility firm has gradually and steadily started filling up the tunnel that leads to the gates of the turbines.

Mr Kapata said after filling up of the tunnel which is the first of the five, the gates will be opened to allow spinning of the first generator unit next month.

“Currently, there are works to open up the section that channels water back to the river. We are equally doing tests for the waterway and some other installation work for the auxiliary facilities.

“In short, we have pre- commissioning works going on before we start spinning the units,” he said.

The 750 mega Watts Kafue Gorge Lower Power Station is a mega project aimed at ending power deficit currently standing at 810mw.
