… Israeli delegation visits Lakes Mweru, Bangweulu, Fiyongoli Aquaculture Research Centre

JB Commodities, an Israeli company has earmarked the setting up of a fish breeding institute of international standards in Luapula Province.
A delegation from JB Commodities conducted visits to Lakes Mweru, Bangweulu, Fiyongoli Aquaculture Research Centre and other surrounding areas.
According to Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa, following the visit, the Israeli firm has expressed great interest in investing in the establishment of a fish breeding institute and a commercial fish farm in the province.
The Minister said the institute will house a modern hatchery that will be a reproduction centre for fingerlings for the restocking of natural waterbodies and fish farming.
Mr Chilangwa said the institute will also have a classroom that will offer both theoretical and practical courses.
He said the hatchery will produce the three main fish species found in Luapula Province such as the greenhead tilapia, red breastfed tilapia and three – spotted bream.
“JB Commodities will closely work with government and offer the expertise in setting up this institute. As you may know Luapula Province no longer has the same fish stock levels it had in the past due to over-fishing and bad fishing methods. However, with the coming of this we are headed for a better future,” he said.
