Police officer dies after pit latrine collapse

A Para Military Police Officer of Lusaka has died after a pit latrine in which he was bathing collapsed leaving his wife injured.

The Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja is saddened by the untimely and sadden death of Sergeant Mcgregory Jere 33.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said his wife Lungowe Silume 30 survived with injuries after a pit latrine where they were bathing from collapsed due to the heavy down pour.

Ms Katongo said the incident happened on 12th November, 2020 around 22 00 hours.

She said the victims were rescued by members of the public and the fire Brigade and rushed them to Matero Level one Hospital where sergeant Jere was pronounced dead.

Ms Katongo said his wife is admitted to the same Hospital and the body of the victim is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police have opened an enquiry in the matter.
