Lubamba Copper Mines has started the construction of a 1×2 science laboratory at Konkola Combined School in Chililabombwe to facilitate practical learning in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The mine has also embarked on an agriculture project that encompasses on training of cooperative members in farming and financial literacy at a cost of K242, 000.
Speaking during a media tour Lubambe Mine Community and Stakeholder Relations Manager Lomthunzi Mbewe said the school lab will benefit over one thousand learners.
Ms Mbewe said the school has been functioning without a lab since its construction in the 1950s.
She said the duration of the project is five months which begun in October and will be done at a cost of K788, 040.
The mine also painted the class rooms of the same school.
Ms Mbewe also highlighted other projects that Lubambe is doing under cooperate Social Responsibility on the Agriculture which they are doing with Tilitonse women Club whom they have trained in tailoring and farming skills.
She said the women grow and supply vegetables to Lubambe staff canteen which is managed and run by Maisha Zambia on a daily basis.
Ms Mbewe said this year the mine will also support the cooperative to re-stock fingerlings for two earthen ponds as they work to diversify into fish farming
She said the women have also been contracted to make reusable masks for Lubambe employees and the first contract costed K61, 000 for 4, 800 masks and now they are doing the second project of 2, 400 masks.
