65 suspected illegal immigrants apprehended

The Department of Immigration in Lusaka has apprehended 65 suspected illegal immigrants in a clean-up operation.

Immigration Public  Relation Officer Namati Nshinka    said the majority were apprehended for trading without permits, unlawful entry, and unlawful stay.

Mr Nshinka said they are all currently detained pending further immigration processes.

He said the Department conducted an operation yesterday and covered various areas of Lusaka, including Matero, Chunga, Kamwala, and Chelson. Other areas were Kamanga, Chilenje, and Chalala.

Mr Nshinka said those apprehended in the clean-up operation were 24 Burundians, 21 Congolese, and 11 Tanzanians.

Others were four Rwandese, one Ugandan, and four others claiming Zambian citizenship.

Meanwhile the Department of Immigration, on 2nd and 3rd November, 2020 apprehended thirty-seven (37) persons of different nationalities for various immigration offences countrywide.

He said during this period, the Department of Immigration also secured 26 convictions, removed 34 illegal immigrants from the country, and refused three foreign nationals entry into Zambia for failing to meet entry requirements.
