Grade 12 pupil drowns in Chikankata

A 17-year-old boy, grade 12 pupil at Chikankata Boarding High School drowned in Chikankata dam while swimming with his friends.

Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that the victim together with two of his friends who are also grade 12 pupils at the same school went for a swim at Chikankata dam.

Mr Mwale said that the pupils while at the dam, they were joined by another unknown juvenile who happened to be a friend to the victim.

He said that when the three juveniles realized that their friend was missing, the unknown juvenile went his way while the two fellow pupils returned to school.

Mr Mwale said that the pupils did not reveal to the school authorities about their missing friend.

He said the pupils only revealed to the School authorities that their friend drowned in Chikankata dam after being interviewed in the early hours of October 29, 2020.

Mr Mwale has identified the victim as Nathan Kashole.

He said the incident happened on October 28, 2020 around 13 hours in Chikakata District.

Police together with Mazabuka Fire Brigade officers visited the scene and managed to retrieve the body which has since been taken to Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
