The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has called for continued industrial harmony in councils in order to increase productivity and to enhance meaningful development.
Speaking during the closing of the four-day technical support visit to Lundazi for nine councils, Commission Chairperson Mr Amos Musonda said council management and union must always strive to dialogue whenever issues arise at the workplace.
The chairperson urged principal officers nationwide to always prioritize employee welfare as this improved employee welfare eventually results in improved productivity.
Mr Musonda stated that the technical visit that the commissions undertakes from time to time are meant to provide support to councils in terms of staff welfare.
He urged principal officers to avoid recommending problematic officers for transfer but instead apply the conditions of service.
The Chairperson further urged councils to ensure timely communication on the various projects been implemented adding that councils exist to provide service to the community.
He said communication must be enhanced by using the right channels of communication.
Mr. Musonda urged councils to move away from the traditional ways of running councils and embrace new technologies.
He stated that councils have been empowered with qualified staff who must make a positive impact on the daily execution of activities.
Mr. Musonda further urged principal officers to uphold ethical standard in their execution of duties and avoid been involved in politics.
And union representatives from FIRESUZ and ZULAWU said they will continue to dialogue with management on various issues in order to promote industrial harmony.
The unions stated that they will share the same interests as management which is welfare of employees in order to enhance productivity in workplaces.
The unions further stated that it was happy that the commission sittings were done in a transparent manner which took into consideration views presented by the unions.
The Service Commission was in Lundazi to provide technical support and handled ten councils which include Chama, Chasefu, Lundazi, Lumezi, Chipangali, Vubwi Chadiza Kasenengwa, Katete and Mambwe.
