Mulonga Water told to expeditiously implement projects

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Minister of Water Development Jonas Chanda has told Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company to implement water projects expeditiously.

Dr Chanda said water projects require expeditious implementation.

The Minister said this when he toured Mulonga treatment plants and some of their projects in Mufurila, Chingola and Chililabombwe respectively.

He advised Mulonga water not to lose focus in ensuring that they meet the government plan to provide safe clean water for all.

Dr Chanda said that water is a commodity important to the lives of the people.

He said that once water and sanitation is compromised, the health of the people will be affected and the burden is shifted to the Ministry of health to buy medicine.

Dr Chanda said that government has prioritized water sector because we need to improve the health of the people.

He said that the Government is aware of the challenges water utilities are going through and he reassured them of Government support.

He said that water utility companies should also be innovative and engage in businesses for sustainability.

Dr Chanda has also appealed to all residents and institutions in the three operational towns to pay water bills for the company to deliver good services.

And Mulonga water Managing Director Reuben Kaira highlighted some of the challenges the utility company was facing the erratic  water supply, water color, non-payments of bills and the dilapidated infrastructure.

Mr Kaira said despite the challenges the company is working around the clock to ensure that people are serviced.

He said the company has accomplished some project that it has embarked under the Zambia water and Sanitation program.
