Solwezi Municipal Council Community Development Officer Lolita Banda says for village banking groups to thrive and foster financial freedom, there is need for members to be vigilant, committed and consistent with savings.
Ms Banda said this when she addressed members of Kawama (Butemwe) and Chimwenu Women Clubs during their share out of profits realized out of individual savings.
She said that the money shared out can be utilized to venture into other businesses thereby enabling club members save more money that will generate more profits.
The club members were assured that the Local Authority will continue monitoring club activities and conduct refresher courses to guarantee their growth.
Ms Banda ascertained that if well harnessed, village banking can enable club members access loans to engage in businesses that will eventually increase their wealth and improve livelihood.
She emphasized the need for club members to follow the agreed rules and regulations in order to ensure team work that will motivate other community members to join them.
Chimwenu Women’s club drawn from Kapijimpanga ward and Kawama (Butemwe) from Sandang’ombe ward were formed last year with the former having a total income of K116, 191.00 after 9 months and the latter accumulating K13, 190.00 after a year.
The local authority seized the opportunity to sensitize club members about the importance of observing public health guidelines and donated reusable facemasks.
