Government has called for stringent measures to offset the trade imbalance between Zambia and South Africa.
Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry Christopher Yaluma said although trade between the two countries is buoyant, benefits are tilted towards South Africa.
Mr Yaluma cites that last year, Zambia’s exports to South Africa stood at 298 million dollars against South Africa’s exports to Zambia, valued at 1.7 billion dollars over the same period.
He disclosed this in Lusaka during the Zambia-South Africa Virtual Investment Seminar.
He called for robust efforts to add value to Zambian products to enhance their competitiveness on the World Market.
And South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Nomalungelo Gina said there is need to come up with innovative measures to boost trade between Zambia and South Africa, amid the ravaging Novel Corona Virus.
