Two men and a juvenile have been arrested by police in Chingola for suspected theft of Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited water pipes supplying Kasompe Airstrip.

The suspects Valentine Kaumba, 23 and the juvenile have been released on police bond pending court appearance while the third suspect escaped from custody.

The three suspects all of Chiwempala Township were arrested during an operation by MWSC security and Zambia Police after a tip off from members of the public.

MWSC Acting Public Relations Manager Bright Mtonga confirmed the arrest of the three suspected criminals and that the case was with the police who had launched a man hunt for the other suspects.

Mr Mtonga said the company had received a report of people stealing old steel water pipes which used to supply Kasompe Airstrip in Kasompe Mumbala area.

“After a tip off our security team and Zambia Police moved in and arrested three suspects. Four GI pipes valued at K400 were recovered from the scene of the crime. “He said.

Mr Mtonga appealed to customers to desist from tempering with company installations as they risked being arrested and prosecuted.

He said that thefts and vandalism had spiked in the recent past and appealed to the community to be vigilant and help the company curb the scourge which was retarding development.
