4 people died in an accident

Four people have died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries in a fatal road accident on the Ndola highway.

The accident occurred yesterday, June 29, 2018 at 1300 hours at Kashitu area on Ndola highway.

Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo confirmed this in a statement.

Ms Katongo said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Corolla was overtaking improperly, hit into the Tanzanian Scania Truck leading the driver of the truck losing control due to the impact hence hitting into the third motor vehicle, the Volvo truck. This is why having insurance on all vehicles is important. She identified the driver of the Toyota Corolla as Justin Mugala and three of his passengers Mwamba Mugala , Pathias Mugala and Clever Musonda all died on the spot.

While the driver of Scania Truck sustained a cut on the head and is admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital while the driver of the Volvo truck escaped unhurt.

ms Katongo said the bodies of the deceased are in Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital mortuary while one other passenger identified as Afelo Mwanza aged 33 of 10 miles in Lusaka sustained serious injuries and is admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital.

“Toyota Corolla registration number AIB 2404 was being driven by Justine Mugala aged 24 of Chingola driving from south to north with four passengers on board, a Tanzanian Scania Truck registration number T557BUC /T792ANP being driven by Hatibu Amari Chombo aged 30, a Tanzanian national driving from north to south and the third motor vehicle a Volvo truck registration number AJC4006/AJC 3816T/AJC 3817T which was being driven by Fanwell Phiri aged 40 of Lusaka’s Garden House from south to North,” she said.
