‘Rampaging’ cop in court…abducted, beat up sangoma

A 29- year-old Police Officer of Chingola who was arrested last year for allegedly stealing an AK47 assault rifle valued at K105, 995.00 has today June 16, 2020 pleaded not guilty to abduction.

Haggi Namauna is alleged to have consulted a witchdoctor to have the case of theft of the gun go in his favour and the witchdoctor is said to have promised him that the arresting officer would fail to testify in court.

However, when the witchdoctor’s promise failed to work, Namauna got angry and abducted the witchdoctor, whom he beat up in rage.

Particulars of the offence before court are that on June 11, this year, Namauna forcefully took away Steward Kabuta against his will to Chingola cemetery where he beat him up.

Appearing for mention before Magistrate Shaderick Chanda was Namauna of 4 Mutelo Police camp in Chingola, facing one count of abduction.

He has denied the charge.

The Magistrate granted him K6, 000 bail in his own recognition with two Government working sureties residing in Chingola.

The matter was adjourned to June 24, this year for commencement of trial.
