Vice President Inonge Wina has hailed the contribution of the Egyptian government to Zambia towards the fight against coronavirus (Covid-19).
Speaking when she received a consignment of assorted medical supplies from the Egyptian government amounting to 18 tons, Mrs Wina said the donation bears testimony of the excellent relations and cooperation between Zambia and Egypt since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1965.
She said the ties between the two countries culminated into a state visit by President Edgar Lungu where a number of issues were discussed.
She said Zambla like other countries has been hit by the Corona virus disease which has led to loss of many lives.
Mrs Wina however noted that despite the increase in the number recoveries, there is still more that needs to be done to protect Zambians especially those in the front line.
She said the medical supplies will go a long way in assisting and protecting the front liners in various health facilities across the country, in addition to supporting schools that will be opening on Mondy 1st June.
She thanked the Egyptian government and it’s people for the generous donation that will go a long way in the fight against COVID-19.
Meanwhile Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia Ahmed Mostafa said the donation is an appreciation of the restless efforts of the Zambian government in the fight against COVID-19.
Mr Mostafa said despite Egypt being hit by the same pandemic, it felt duty bound to help a fellow African country that has helped Egypt in other many ways.
He said the President of Egypt has promised to fight the pandemic together with other countries collectively.
And Home Affairs Minister Sstephen Kampyongo said Zambia will continue forging stronger ties with Egypt and also help reduce pressure on the treasury as most hospitals will be equipped.
