Chingola Member of Parliament Matthew Nkhuwa has started working on the Chiwempala cemetery road.
The works are remedial measures aimed at making the road passable when the community is burying its dead loved ones.
Due to the bad state of the road, residents living less than 3 kilometres from the graveyard were forced to take a long route to Lulamba covering a distance of over seven kilometres to bury their loved ones.
Godfridah Mwamba one of the residents in Mikiloni said the stretch has been problematic to the community.
Ms Mwamba said residents would leave their vehicles across and walk over to the cemetery.
She said the work of Mr Nkhuwa will simplify the burden of burying their loved ones.
And Matty Investments General Manager Fredrick Sante said the work is enormous.
Mr Sante said the stretch which is about 1.2km will require 500 truck loads of waste rock and the equal amount of latelite.
He said one truck load of latelite costs about K3, 000 and the total cost may go up as the patching is done.
“Konkola Copper Mines has come on board by offering the services of their excavator and waste rock while Chingola Municipal Council is offering a truck to ferry both waste rock and latelite. Other trucks and fuel cost is being born out by Chingola MP.
“This job isn’t one man’s show, we need other stakeholders to come on board so that we can do a good job. We want to make it motorable as central and local governments are conterplating on the permanent measures,” he said.
