Ngoni chief bans all traditional dances due Covid-19

Senior Chief Nzamane of the Ngoni people in Chipata has banned all traditional dances in his chiefdom.

Chief Nzamane said that his chiefdom through his indunas and headmen has already started the sensitization campaigns on coronavirus outbreak.

He said that he has already communicated to the people to reduce on the number of people attending funerals.

The traditional leader also expressed disappointment with the Nyau dancers that have continued to conduct their traditional dances in his chiefdom.

He said that his chiefdom is a mixture of Ngoni and Chewa villages, stating that the Chewa villages have defied the directive to stop Nyau dances amid the Coronavirus outbreak

Chief Nzamane said the he will not tolerate any kind of gathering that may endanger the lives of people in his chiefdom.

He was speaking when Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu in the company of officers from the Ministry of Health paid a courtesy call.

Chipata District Administration, Chipata City Council and the district health office have embarked on the program to sensitize traditional leaders in the district on COVID-19.

The traditional leader called on the Chewa chiefs to advise the Chewa people in his chiefdom to stop all Nyau dances in the wake of Coronavirus.
