Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has warned shop owners in the Central Business District (CBD) and part of Second Class trading area risk their shops closed if they don’t paint.
Mr Chanda said that those not adhering to the local authority’s call to paint their buildings risk shops being closed.
He said it was unfortunate that some shop owners had chosen to ignore the Council’s instruction even after being given an extensive period of time to adhere to the task.
The Mayor gave an example of the Luanshya Post office which is just opposite his office.
He said part of keeping the town clean and attractive to investors includes having well maintained structures that are neat for operations.
Mr Chandasaid Luanshya Municipal Council will be carrying out an inspection this week and those that have not painted their structures must with immediate effect commence the painting or face punitive measures by the Council.
He has implored traders and all residents to develop a sense of ownership towards having a clean town and supplement the Council and government’s efforts.
Mr Chanda has encouraged all residents to adhere to government’s policy by participating in the District clean up exercise every last Saturday of the month.
“I wish to thank shop owners and business traders who have painted their structures and are keeping their surrounding clean as per request and should maintain the proactive approach towards this earnest appeal, in line with the Republican President’s re-launch of the Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign, I urge stakeholders to have a positive mindset towards cleanliness,” he said.
