President Edgar Lungu has through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU) donated 5000 by 12.5kg bags of mealie meal to Ndola Central Constituency.
Distributing the mealie-meal on behalf of President Lungu, Ndola Central Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Mulenga said 2400 people will benefit in the first phase of the distribution.
Mr. Mulenga said the donation has been given to cushion the hardships that people are going through during this trying moment when the nation is observing preventive measures against the COVID-19 where many places such as bars have been closed.
Mr Mulenga who is also Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development said the donation will also help people in the constituency to stay at home as they adhere to the measures put in place by government.
He said the other 2600 bags will be distributed after five days to ensure that no one is left behind where distribution of relief food was concerned.
And Mapalo Ward Councillor, Kennedy Phiri thanked President Lungu through Mr. Mulenga for having extended a helping hand to the needy in his ward during this trying moment of the COVID-19.
Mr. Phiri said the donation will at most mitigate the hunger situation which his people are currently going through as they observe the 14-day ultimatum at home as a way to combating the spread of COVID 19.
And the recipients have praised President Lungu for the gesture adding that truly he was a pro-poor leader with the interest of his people at heart.
