MISA condemns disruption of LAZ forum

By JOHN SAKALA
MISA Zambia has condemned the disruption of the discussion forum organised by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) to discuss the Bill 10.

MISA Zambia President Hellen Mwale has implored Zambia Police to thoroughly investigate and arrest perpetrators responsible for the shameful act.

Ms Mwale said the forum was held at Intercontinental Hotel on February 17, 2020 and featured a variety of speakers from the law fraternity.

She said the discussions were premised on obtaining a perspective from lawyers regards the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 10 of 2019 which was crucial in providing access to the much needed information for citizens on this vital piece of legislation.

“The disruptions by suspected cadres is an assault on citizens’ rights to freedom of expression as their acts clearly infringed upon the rights of both the panellists and the discussants to exercise the right to express themselves as guaranteed by the constitution of Zambia.

“We call upon the Zambia Police to swiftly move in and investigate this incident and bring to book all involved in this criminal act. This unruly behaviour must be condemned by all well-meaning citizens as it affects the democratic systems that have been put in to enable citizens participate in the governance of this country,” he said.
