Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja says police are ready to police the forth coming Parliamentary By-elections in Chilubi as well as the Local Government By-election.
Mr Kanganja said all the necessary preparations to ensure that the elections are effectively policed have been put in place.
He said the service shall be firm on the ground and shall not tolerate any disorderly conduct before, during and after the elections.
The IG has appealed to the leaders of political parties taking part in these elections to advise their supporters to conduct their political activities in a peaceful manner.
Mr Kanganja said enough police officers will be deployed so as to provide security and ensure that law and order prevails.
“Police will also conduct random searches on persons and motor vehicles for offensive weapons which include guns, hence all members of the public are advised to cooperate with the police officers.
All those that will take part in political activities are warned against arming themselves with guns and other offensive weapons as this is against the law. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
He has urged political players to submit their campaign schedules to respective regulating officers so as to enable them plan adequately.
Mr Kanganja has advised political players to conduct their activities according to the campaign schedules to avoid clashing.
