Ebola joint commission formed

Health Authorities in Luapula and Northern Province with their Congolese counterparts have formed an Ebola high alert joint commission to monitor the 6-hundred kilometer boundary stretch separating the two countries.

And the number of refugees crossing into Zambia from the Democratic Republic of Congo has rapidly increased forcing the health joint commission to include other ailments such as Typhoid , Tuberculosis and Malaria in the screening programme at entry points.

Luapula Provincial Health Director Dr Peter Bwalya has however told Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya that there is completely no pilferage of drugs in the area as Zambia National Service -ZNS- officers deployed to curb smuggling on the borderline have extended their search beyond mealie meal to medicines.

And Dr Chilufya said his ministry will continue supporting the commission that has so far shown tremendous progress since it’s formation about three months ago.

He said the Ministry of Health has enough drugs to curb any eventuality coupled with putting in place adequate preventive measures.
