6 hacked, one dies in Chingola, Katanga fumes

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Six members of Chingola’s Chikola loop area have been hacked by machetes-wielding gang leaving a mother dead.

And this news of hacking has incensed Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga who feels the community is not helpful.

Meanwhile, the community protested against the continued hacking saying police were not patrolling the area.

They blocked the cemetery road with tyres and stones but quick action by police pacified the riot.

The incidence of hacking comes barely two weeks after another family of five was hacked in the same area and were left seriously injured.

The mother and wife was allegedly raped, hacked and strangled to death using an electrical cable.

Ms Katanga said the family members sustained multiple deep cuts on their heads.

She said the wife identified as Ruth Chongwe 22, of Plot No.6010 Chikola Loop areas sustained two deep cuts on the forehead and died on the spot.

She said police visited the scene of crime and found Ms Chongwe’s body in the pool of blood, suspected to have been raped.

Ms Katanga said she was also strangled using an electric-cable which was found around her neck.

She said the body of Ms Chongwe was in Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary awaiting Postmortem, while whilst all the five members of the family are admitted in the same hospital and the condition is stable.

She has identified other members as Levision Chongwe 32 the father, and the four children, Natasha Chongwe 12, Moise Chongwe 5, Bongani Chongwe 5 and Manase Chongwe 4.

Ms Katanga has warned that the police are concerned because the hacking was done in the same way as the last one.

She has called on the members of the community to work together with the police to arrest these culprits.

Ms Katanga has urged the community to be a brother’s keepers when they hear shouts from neighbors they should help out and rescue the other.
