Edinburgh Business School is encouraging more Zambian women to apply for the fully funded online Master of Business Administration (MBA)scholarships. The initiative, launched in Lusaka in August, is funded by the Scottish Government’s International Development Fund and Edinburgh Business School, part of Heriot-Watt University.
Applications are still open and women at various stages in their careers are encouraged to apply. His Excellency Mr. Muyeba Chikonde, outgoing Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom has implored Zambian women to take advantage of the opportunity and apply for the scholarships. “These scholarships are fully funded and address gender bias that tends to affect the advancement of women. Career, Professional and Business women can undertake the programme at their own pace, allowing them to plan and balance their lives,” he said.
Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development Ben Macpherson MSP said, “Scotland has a longstanding friendship with Zambia and I was privileged to visit the country myself last year in order to help foster those close links. The Scottish Government’s International Development Fund is working in partnership with organisations from both countries to further our shared values and the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development – particularly the commitments to access to quality education and gender equality.
“Edinburgh Business School and Heriot-Watt University share those values. This unique opportunity will allow women to study online in Zambia, and gain a professional qualification in business. I encourage as many aspiring business leaders as possible to apply for the programme, which will begin in January 2020. In particular, we are keen to encourage applications from women who might not otherwise be in a position to fund their studies.”
And Professor Heather McGregor, Executive Dean of Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, said: “Our mission at Edinburgh Business School is to help business professionals across the world transform their careers and support aspiring business leaders as they enter competitive job markets. Our students and alumni develop professionally and personally throughout their learning experience and we are delighted to partner with the Scottish Government and offer the Scholarship to women in Zambia.
Applications close on 10 November 2019, and the selected scholars will be announced on 16 December 2019.
The scholars who complete the MBA Programme will automatically receive a free and lifelong membership of The Watt Club– Heriot-Watt University’s alumni association.
