Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba has embarked on a robust campaign to seek support from member states of the African Union.
This is on the proposed recognition of Zambia’s first Head of State, Dr Kenneth Kaunda as one of the founding fathers of the African Union.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy on Tunisia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU,Kais Kabtani, Mr Mwamba said it was important that President Kaunda was duly recognised as one who help place African history in perspective.
Ambassador Mwamba, has paid glowing tribute to the late Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi, Tunisia’s president who died in July 2019.
Mr Mwamba said the late President played a key role in stabilizing Tunisia during the country’s transition to democracy after the Arab spring in 2010.
He also expressed hope that Tunisia will hold the upcoming elections, due on September 15th 2019, in a peaceful fair manner and that the outcome would reflect the will and wishes of Tunisians.
Mr Mwamba also said he was following with interest the reforms happening at the African Union Commission to ensure that the Secretariat was made more efficient, responsive and accountable to help deliver on the mandate of the African Union.
