3 drown on Lake Mweru

Three people have drowned while two survived after the boat they were in capsized on Lake Mweru in Nchelenge District.

Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the incident happened yesterday August 22, 2019 on Lake Mweru when the boat they were in while fishing capsized due to strong winds.

Mr Mwale said the capsizing happened between 04:00 hours and 05:00 hours where Rogers Mwape and Fewdays Nsama aged 25 and 26 respectively managed to swim to safety.

But Joseph Mwape 26, Bernard Kasongo 22, and Emmanuel Mwansa 27, all of Nchelenge District in Luapula Province drowned.

The bodies of the three have not yet been retrieved.

Meanwhile, Four people among them Former Minister of Works and Supply Felix Mutati escaped without injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a Road Traffic Accident.

The incident occurred on August 22, 2019 around 15:30 hours along Mutanda – Chavuma Road in Kamazavu area 50 kilometres west of Mufumbwe District.

Mr Mwale said Samson Moyo aged 69 whilst driving a Toyota Hilux registration number AEB 2283 from Mufumbwe to Kabompo lost control after hitting a pothole and went off the road into Kamazovu stream.

The other occupants of the vehicle included Kadobi Scorpion aged 51 and Danny Nikosa aged 56.

The vehicle had its bonnet deformed.
