A Police officer of Shawangandu Police Station in Muchinga Province has died in a Road Traffic Accident after being hit by a motor vehicle.
Police acting Spokesperson Danny Mwale said Constable Martin Mtonga 25, was crossing the road as a pedestrian when he was hit.
Mr Mwale said Mr Mtonga was hit by a Toyota Harrier registration number ABT 9836 which was being driven by Mubanga Brisco 23, of Trench Township in Mpika.
He said Mr Mtonga had sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Shiwangandu Clinic.
“The incident occurred today, August 20, 2019 around 10:00 hours along Great North Road opposite Shiwangandu Police Station. The driver is detained in Police custody while the body of Mr Mtonga is in Chinsali District Hospital awaiting postmortem.
