A-17-year-old boy of Kitwe has been placed on a one year probation by the Kitwe Magistrate court for stealing bags of charcoal.

This is a matter in which the juvenile was charged with theft contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Particulars were that between October 1 and June 15, 2019 in Kitwe the juvenile whilst acting together with persons unknown, stole 11 by 50 bags of Charcoal all valued at K1, 250 the property of Matine Chiyame.

Appearing before Magistrate Maureen Nkonde for plea the juvenile pleaded guilty to the offence.

Magistrate Ms Nkonde said upon the juvenile’s own admission of the offence, she had found him guilty as charged and was placed him on mitigation.

In mitigation through the probation officer, the juvenile begged for the court to exercise maximum leniency as he had learnt a lesson.

And Magistrate Ms Nkonde said she had taken it into consideration that he was a first offender who had readily admitted the charge and that he was a first offender who deserved the courts leniency.

She then put him on a one year probation in which he was to be taught on how to behave in society.
