KCM owing underground mine contractors $121,000

By Tinkerbel Mwila
Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) owes underground mine contractors US$121,000.

Nchanga Member of Parliament Chali Chilombo has named the three underground contractors as Elioyoni, Lukoria and Mpelembe drilling.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Chilombo indicated that he is yet to meet the contractors to inform them on the way forward once he meets the liquidator of KCM.

He said over 400 workers have been affected as Lukoria had 150 workers, Elioyoni with 150 and Mpelembe with 113 workers.

But KCM Corporate General Manager, Eugene Chungu says from the time KCM operations were taken over, it has cleared all its arrears while those remaining have been engaged and will be paid whatever is owed in due course.
