A Police officer at Namwala Police Station has shot himself dead.
Constable Elzier Lubinda 34, of Namwala Police, who was in shift number one, shot himself with an AK 47 rifle and died on the spot.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Mr Lubinda shot himself through the chin and the bullet came out through the right eye.
Mr Hamoonga said the shooting happened today April 26, 2019 around 01: 30 hours at Namwala Police inquiries office.
He said there is no known reason which could have forced Mr Lubinda to take his own life.
But an inquiry file for suicide had been opened. The scene was visited and the officer was found laying down facing upwards with the firearm on his chest. A projectile was also recovered at the scene. The body has since been taken to Namwala District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.
