KCM announces employment, promotion freeze

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has announced that it will no longer employ new workers and will neither promote nor renew contracts of current employees.

Employees currently employed will also not have their conditions of service revised until further notice.

This is according to an internal memo signed by KCM Chief Excutive Officer Christopher Shepard, Chief Finance Officer Venkatesan Giridhar and vice-president – Human Resource Manager Beatrice Mutambo and seen by #Kalemba.

The firm said no vancancy in the company will be filled even if it was in tbe business plan.

“No vacancies to be filled arising from early retirement, normal retirement, resignations, disciplinary, medical discharge, mortality etc. These vacancies will not be filled up by recruiting an external candidate, or through letral movement or promotions,” the memo read in part.
The memo further announced that acting postions in the company had had also been abolished and anyone who was acting in any position should revert to their initial positions.

“No grade changes (promotions) will be done to anyone until further notice and no variations will be done to anyone’s employment
contract until further notice,” further read the memo.

“In particular no movement of any personel to vacancies in Grade KCM S5 to KCM 8 will be effected until further notice. No vacancies will be filled through promotion between KCM S5 to KCM 8. No extension of employment contract to any employee or/and any rehiring of any employee,” the memo read further.

The company management announced that directive was effective from April 8, 2019 and should be strictly adhered/Kalemba.
